Holafly eSIM Review Details and My Ratings from Experience

Coverage and Performance: 9/10

Holafly’s coverage impressed me in most urban and tourist areas I visited, with 5G coverage in prominent areas.

The eSIM connects to partner networks in each destination, typically selecting the strongest signal available in your area.

I could reliably use:

  • Navigation apps for getting around cities
  • Checking information on the go, about places we visited
  • Video calls with family or friends
  • Social media browsing and uploads

In major cities, the connection was consistently strong and reliable. For example, it worked seamlessly in cities of Colombia, like Santa Marta, Cartagena, Medellin, Bogota, and with 5G networks at many places.

In more remote areas, I experienced occasional drops in service, but this is something common with most mobile providers and not specific to Holafly.

For example, it worked nicely in Guatemala City and Antigua Guatemala, however it was intermittent while we were traveling between the 2 cities.

Cost-Benefit Efficiency: 7/10

The unlimited data aspect of Holafly’s plans provides exceptional value if you need constant connectivity with high data requirements.

This is how the pricing of Holafly is, especially when compared to alternatives:

Vs. roaming: Holafly is significantly more economical than traditional carrier roaming fees, which can quickly accumulate into hundreds of dollars.

Vs. local SIM: For short to medium-length trips, Holafly offers better convenience value, though it can be more expensive if your data requirement is low.

It is convenient as you do not need to:

  • Find a local store
  • Navigate language barriers
  • Provide identification documents
  • Deal with unfamiliar activation processes
  • Think about data usage limitations

Vs. competitors: While some competitors offer lower initial prices like Saily and Airalo, they typically have data caps.

Holafly’s unlimited plans eliminate the necessity of monitoring your usage or paying for additional data.

So, again, their value lies in the care-free convenience of data usage.

The day-based pricing structure means you only pay for the exact duration of your trip, making it particularly cost-effective for trips of 5-15 days.

📈 However, if you do not need unlimited data plans, Holafly’s pricing may seem steep.

✅ We recommend Holafly eSIM for travelers with heavy data requirements, who need to stay connected for remote work, and/or need mobile data beyond basic browsing and booking rides.

Data Plan Options: 8/10

Holafly focuses primarily on unlimited data plans for specific countries and regions. This approach has both advantages and limitations:

Strengths:

  • Truly unlimited data without caps
  • Clear, straightforward pricing based on trip duration
  • No need to estimate your data needs beforehand

Limitations:

  • Fewer options for light data users who might prefer cheaper, limited-data plans
  • Less flexibility in terms of plan customization

You can pick your country or region from ‘Where are you traveling’, and pick the number of days on the following page.

Check the coverage of the eSIM in the your selected geography, and compatibility of your phone and follow the instructions to buy it.

In my case, I selected ‘Latin America’ as the region, followed by the period as per our requirement.

I particularly appreciated not having to monitor my data usage or worry about unexpected charges, neither needing to purchase new plan while traveling across different countries in the region.

Ease of Purchase and Activation: 9/10

My experience purchasing and activating the Holafly eSIM was straightforward:

  1. Selection: I chose my destination country and trip duration on their website
  2. Purchase: Completed purchase through their secure checkout
  3. Delivery: Received the eSIM QR code and instructions via email almost immediately
  4. Installation: Scanned the QR code with my phone’s camera
  5. Activation: Followed the simple on-screen instructions to activate the eSIM profile
  6. Connection: Connected to the local network within minutes of landing

The entire process from purchase to activation took less than 10 minutes.

No technical knowledge was required, and I did not need to adjust any complex settings.

⚡ When we changed country within the Latin America region, the data took some time to connect. But as soon as I toggled on the ‘Data Roaming’ option and restarted the phone, it worked seamlessly.

Time-saving tip: Install your Holafly eSIM before departure while you still have reliable internet access. This ensures you are ready to connect immediately upon arrival.

Add-ons in Data Plans: 9/10

Holafly offers flexibility on the number of days in their data plans and they are data-focused, and do not offer non-data options like SMS or calls.

However, like most travelers, if you do not need the non-data features, you can leverage the unlimited plan for anything you wish to do.

The Unlimited data plans give the flexibility to do whatever you want to use the data for, and eliminates the need to get any add-on benefit such as social media or navigation.

You can use it to post videos on social media on the go, watch videos, navigate and browse without worries, and take video calls.

  • 24/7 chat support
  • Email assistance
  • Through Whatsapp

The self-help resources on their website cover most common questions and setup procedures, which are helpful for solving basic issues without waiting for support.

Who Are Holafly Unlimited Data Plans Best For?

For travelers who need substantial data for navigation, social media, streaming, work, and prioritize convenience, Holafly’s unlimited eSIM plans deliver excellent value.

Based on my experience, Holafly’s unlimited data plans are particularly well-suited for:

  • Heavy data users who stream content, use navigation apps extensively, or need to upload large files while traveling
  • Digital nomads and remote workers who rely on consistent connectivity for work tasks
  • Worry-free travelers who do not want to monitor data usage or deal with unexpected charges
  • Short to medium-term travelers visiting for 5-15 days, where the day-based pricing structure offers the best value

However, they might be less ideal for:

  • Budget travelers on very short trips (1 day to less than a week)
  • Light data users who only need basic data usage
